Episode 69 of the Sopranos has viewers calling it the best episode this season and one of the best in recent memory. The episode injected some real life politics as Tony had political discussions about religion and dinosaurs with evangelical right wing Christians and Creator David Chase's also firing shots at Gangsta rap's infatuation with Italian Crime families. The April 3rd Premiere entitled: THE FLESHY PART OF THE THIGH was a reference to a deal made by Bobby Bacala played By Steven R. Schirripa and Treach of Naughty By Nature to agree to shoot the rapper in the fleshy part of the thigh to get his street credibility up in exchange for 8,000 dollars. Bobby assures Treach that since the thigh is fleshy and contains no vital organs it poses little life threatening injury. Creators imposed a scenario whereby rapper Lord Jamal of Brand Nubian was shot several seven times and cried in whined to his manager about the pain he was in, as Tony Soprano eavesdropped on the ominous conversation of how the unfortunate shooting was great for publicity and would garner street credibility. Jamals declares his new authentication claiming " I been shot shot 2 times more thanTupac and 2 times less than 50 Cents." Treach jealous of the attention Jamal received after the shooting works an agreement with Bobby to be shot in the thigh but is unable to make the paltry sum of 8,000 and comes up 1,000 short. Bobby agrees anyway but in exchange shoots the rapper in the buttocks instead of the thigh for coming up a thousand dollars short as Treach wallows in pain. Throughout the episode creators showed a not so subtle fascination and homage paid by rappers to the Soprano Crime Family and how the respect was not returned.
Creator Chase also took proverbial shots at the thinking of the Nations Evangelicals who attack a literalist approach to biblical events and they tactics they have used to attempt to win people over. Evangelicals wearing t shirts expressing the desire to keep Terry Schiavo alive invade Tony Soprano's room in efforts to get him to become a born again Christian. The dialogue witnessed Soprano clearly articulating the position of scientist. In one politically charge scene the evangelical tells Tony" The Bible tells us that God created all of the land animals on the sixth day of creation. As dinosaurs were land animals, they must have been made on this day, alongside Adam and Eve, who were also created on Day Six (Genesis 1:24-31)." Soprano realizing this would fly before all scientific facts warns the evangelical that such a position is unsupported despite the popularity of the cartoon the "Flintstones" and no man or human ancestor actually saw a dinosaur with his own eyes. Other Crime Family members agree that carbon dating has proved that the two are separated by 60 million years. Dinosaurs lived throughout the Mesozoic Era, (comprised of 3 eras) which began 245 million years ago and lasted for 180 million years. The first Human ancestor appears during the Pliocene Epoch. Holocene Epoch in which civilization develops has been dated back only 10,000 years. Evolutionists cite that no man ever lived alongside dinosaurs. Evangelicals Christians refute modern science and the states position and interpret creation stories literally in the Bible, and have deduced that dinosaurs and people must have lived together only 6,000 years ago. The connection between the irrational logic of the evangelicals is a clear tie in to the euthanasia subject of the Terry Schiavo case as the show debuted on the first scheduled Sunday marking the one year anniversary of the political right to life contest.
