RACISM ON THE SOCCER FIELD

In General, Sports on April 6, 2006 at 1:23 am

By Eva Lodde, Mike Glindmeier, Jens Todt.

Mired in betting scandals, riven by infighting and alarmed by recent poor performances on the pitch, German soccer needs anything but more controversy in the few months remaining before it hosts the World Cup. But some recent cases of blatant racism are doing further damage to its image. It started with a Hitler salute. Two eastern German soccer teams in the fourth division, FC Sachsen Leipzig and Hallesche FC, had just drawn 2-2 on March 25 in Halle, and the fans weren't happy. Leipzig's Nigerian midfielder Adebowale Ogungbure was walking off the pitch when hooligans ran up to him, spat at him and called him "Dirty Nigger," "Shit Nigger" and "Ape." He ignored it and walked on. Then, when he passed the main stand and heard fans making whooping monkey noises at him, he decided he'd had enough. He put two fingers above his mouth to symbolise a Hitler moustache and stuck out his right arm in a Nazi salute to the crowd.Given their behavior, one might think they would have appreciated the gesture and even returned it. But a Halle supporter attacked him from behind with a corner flag and another grabbed him in a stranglehold. Ogungbure pushed them away as a teammate intervened and dragged him towards the tunnel, to the safety of the changing rooms. Read the rest of this entry »

BUSTA CHAMPAGNE BOTTLE’D DAVID MAYS

In General, Hood News, Music on March 31, 2006 at 6:15 pm

According to the NY Daily News. Busta Rhymes took a page out of Naomi Campbell playbook and sent an adversary to the hospital this week after braining him with a Champagne bottle. The rapper, who was in Miami for the Winter Music Conference, has a serious beef with deposed Source publisher David Mays. The pair got into a brawl Sunday night at the Miami hot spot Opium, sending Mays to the hospital to clean up a gash in his noggin, two sources tell us. Rhymes’ entourage hasn’t been talking about the incident, and Mays hasn’t gone to the police. It is the same hip-hop omerta that has plagued the NYPD's investigation into the slaying of Israel Ramirez, in Brooklyn in February. But one witness to the Miami assault tells us: "Mays got around 50 stitches in the back of the head." Many of the artists on Busta’s management company, Violator, including 50 Cent and Eminem, have had a problem with Mays over his coverage of them in The Source. Busta’s rep didn’t return calls, and Mays was tight-lipped when we contacted him. "I ain’t talking about that," he said, before hanging up the phone.

Despite his initial promises to do so, Babangida never did get around to abolishing the notorious State Security (Detention of Persons) Decree Number 2, which established the right of the government to detain for six months any individual deemed dangerous solely on his say-so, without any right to a trial or even habeas corpus." This is according to wikipedia.com. I was pretty much a baby when General Ibrahim Babangida was in power and I was raised through his regime, and I know for a fact. SURVIVAL OF THE RICHEST

The concept of the WB's new "Survival of the Richest" is to take wealthy and pampered young people, who have never worked in their lives, and team them with young, debt-ridden working-class stiffs. BUSTA WAS BLEEPING MAD IN MIAMI

In General, Hood News, Music on March 30, 2006 at 10:28 pm

According to a NY tabloid written by popular Gossip columnist Richard Johnson rapper Bust Rhymes went ballistic on a young gay fan who dared to tap the rapper on the shoulder after a night of clubbing in Miami. Rhymes, who was in South Beach for the Winter Music Conference, has been on edge ever since one of his security guards, Israel Ramirez, was shot dead last month in Brooklyn while guarding Rhymes’ jewelry. But it seems nothing makes the rapper’s temper flare faster than the unwanted touch of an effeminate man. The drama unfolded at the 11th Street Diner, which is next door to gay club Twist, early Sunday morning. "The restaurant was packed with transvestites, gay men and drag queens, which obviously made Busta a little edgy," eyewitness Thomas Barker e-mails. "This became evident when a young gay guy came up behind Busta and tapped him on the shoulder to congratulate the rapper on his recent comeback. Before the guy could even mutter a word, Busta turned around and repeatedly screamed, ‘Why the [bleep] you touchin’ me, man? Get the [bleep] away from me’ . . . his two huge bodyguards then caused an even larger scene by pushing the kid away . . . Busta quietly whispered to his bodyguards, ‘I hate [bleeping] faggots, man.’ " A spokeswoman for Rhymes did not return calls.

WEEKEND RELEASE OF ATL’ FILM RAISES SECURITY

By RICHARD L. ELDREDGE of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Could a coming-of-age film set at a Southside Atlanta skating rink translate into overtime for mall cops next weekend? That was the not-so-subtle implication of a memo about the upcoming movie "ATL" that was e-mailed this week to seven shopping centers: Perimeter, Cumberland, Discover Mills, NorthPoint, Oglethorpe, Southlake and Augusta malls. In the memo, Valor Security Service Perimeter Mall security director W. Mark Crowell warns: "On March 31, the movie ‘ATL’ will be released in theaters. A theater manager at one of our properties has alerted the mall team that this movie could cause potential behavior problems. The movie trailer indicates that themes in the movie include moral choices and narcotics trafficking … Please appropriately prepare your security staffs for the release of this movie." SUGE KNIGHT IS BROKE

In General, Hood News, Music on March 30, 2006 at 9:21 pm

A judge said on Thursday he would take control of Marion "Suge" Knight’s assets, including his Death Row Records label, after finding the rap mogul had avoided paying a $107 million civil court judgment. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald Sohigian said Knight, who co-founded Death Row with rapper Dr. Dre in the early 1990s and helped launch the careers of performers Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur, could stave off the order if he fully disclosed his assets in a debtor’s exam set for April 1.Sohigian said he would appoint a court officer to take over Knight’s finances because he had failed to make good on a $107 million judgment won last March by Lydia Harris, who claimed he cheated her out of a 50 percent stake in the rap label."Because he had a long history of deceiving the court and avoiding payment, I asked the court to appoint a receiver to take over," Harris’ attorney, Rex Julian Beaber, said. "If Knight cooperates in providing the information, he can ask the court to remove the receiver. But I don’t think there’s a chance in hell Knight is going to cooperate.

Lionel Richie always seemed like one of the good guys. I interviewed him many times back in the ’70s and found him friendly, funny, gregarious, a great guy to be around. So it has always surprised me that his daughter is such an idiot. Maybe I shouldn’t care. There’s a lot going on in the world right now – war, famine, bigotry, war – and one could argue that these things matter a lot more than the idiocy of Richie’s 25-year-old adopted daughter. But Nicole Richie’s disturbing little stunt two weeks ago in Castaic, Calif., has stayed with me ever since I read about it. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Richie, trailing a camera crew, was pushing a baby carriage down the street for the latest mutation of her TV show, "The Simple Life," when she happened upon an 11-year-old boy playing basketball in his driveway. 50 CENT STILL SHIT TALKING

In General, Hood News, Music on March 27, 2006 at 11:54 pm

If you can stomach the incessant dickriding from Ms. Jones and whoever the other clown on the show is, here is some audio of 50 on Hot 97 this morning. With the GRODT DVD dropping today and Mobb Deep release date steadily approaching, 50 is of course in prime talk shit mode. Among the topics discussed:

  • He claims he had nothing to do with Styles P’s album being pushed back.
  • Responding to Spike Lee’s invitation to sit in on one of his film classes, 50 says Spike doesn’t have anything to offer him.
  • He also speaks on the NOT AT ALL SUBLIMINAL shot Spike took in Inside Man, and wonders why people are mad at his game but not something like GTA.
  • Says Game went to the wrong house in his Stop Snitching Stop Lying DVD.
  • Takes more shots at Kanye West.
  • When asked if he will ever be President of Interscope records states: "I’m already the president of Interscope Records"
  • Speaks on Carmen’s book and says it’s all business and that Nas should have put his foot in her ass a long time ago.
  • On down south music: "They don’t want to think, they want to have a good time."
  • Criticizes Puff for how he jerked Big and says he’s "running him into the ground."

So, none of these comments are really anything new, but if I didn’t post it I might be accused of ‘hating’ by the Stanley’s. Plus, I figure there’s enough material here to occupy the commenters for the next 24 hours or so. Enjoy…

RULE TO BEING A SUAVE BLOKE

In General on March 27, 2006 at 7:10 pm

The Rule to being a provocative Bloke. The main key to being a suave bloke like me is getting other common folks to buy into the bullshit you are embracing without scolding anybody in the process. The strategy I like to use is comedy, make people laugh. People don't like scolders and women don't like being scolded. My shriek, Ms. Charles, tells me time after time that I am an asshole. Probably what I need is a help group like Alcoholics Anonymous, more like Assholes Anonymous. See I am not scared to let the asshole out from time to time and its should be a practice that all should try. But there lies a problem behind that, as long as you dont piss people off in the process you are fine. People's feeling get hurt easily and you dont wanna make them feel like you are better than them but the impression should be "sexier" not "better". Always understand the difference.

At the same time, in order to be suave you cant be looking over your shoulder worrying about what other idiots are thinking after you do something. For example, when Kanye proclaim to the whole world that George W doesnt about black people, he didnt care what the outcome was. Do not question yourself, just make it happen. I do sometimes say alot of stupid shit like kanye. you can't go around trying to make people feel better about themselves by explaining yourself all the time. Do you and someobdy will get you some of the time. Point blank I'm a fucking problem, capiche. I'm out.

JACKO WANTS TO MEET ALIENS

Bahrain resident Michael Jackson is allegedly eager to meet aliens from other galaxies. PR guy Mike Luckman - director of the New York Center for Extraterrestrial Research and author of the Pocket Books-VH1 release “Alien Rock: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Extraterrestrial Connection” – claims Jackson personally told him so. “Michael indicated to me that he is open to making contact with otherworldly beings,” Luckman said, adding that his never-before-revealed conversation with Jackson lasted for 15 minutes during a well-publicized visit (before Jacko’s child-molestation trial) to the famed magic store Abracadabra on 21st St. in Chelsea. Store owner Paul Blum confirmed Luckman’s close encounter, in late 2003. But Jackson’s spokeswoman, Raymone Bain, told me: “I wouldn’t doubt that he was in the store,” but insisted that if her client talked to Luckman, “He was only being polite.” Luckman’s account? “That is pure bull,” Bain said. CHARLIE SHEEN QUESTIONS 9/11 EVENTS

In Film, General, Politics on March 23, 2006 at 10:22 pm

Charlie Sheen has accused the US government of covering up the real events of September 11. The heartthrob actor has revealed he doesn’t believe the official account of the atrocity in 2001. He told GGN Radio Network’s ‘The Alex Jones Show’: “It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box-cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 per cent of their targets feels like a conspiracy theory. It raises a lot of questions.” The actor also said he was suspicious about the cause of the Twin Towers collapse, saying it looked like a “controlled demolition”. The ‘Two and a Half Men’ star – who has two children with estranged wife Denise Richards – also reportedly questioned the way a plane managed to hit the Pentagon. Sheen thinks the public need to uncover the real version of events for the sake of the victims and those who lost their loved ones. He said: “It is up to us to reveal the truth. It is up to us because we owe it to the families, we owe it to the victims, we owe it to everyone’s life that was drastically altered, horrifically, that day and forever. “We owe it to them to uncover what happened.”

Blige draws upon her own experience in advising Whitney Houston to admit to her alleged drug problems, stating the admission of an addiction is the “first step on the road to recovery.”Blige, who still battles with the effects of her past drug use, tells Britain’s “Attitude” magazine, “You have got to want to admit that you have got a problem, first of all. Then start to deal with why that is.”The “Be Without You” singer also says that Houston’s issues may be rooted in her own unhappiness. “It’s probably more than just drugs,” she says. “You get addicted to drugs and alcohol because you want to drown out all the problems in your life.”Describing herself as “a work in progress,” Blige says her current insight is the result of a long, hard journey that began when she looked in the mirror and began holding that person responsible for her problems, not others. Many of her lessons were handed down by a good friend and confidant, Chaka Khan.

He was also accused of daubing ‘3121′, the title of his new album, on the house and installing a monogrammed carpet – also in his beloved purple – in the master bedroom. His landlord, NBA star Carlos Boozer, lodged a lawsuit against the singer in January. But the star’s lawyers insisted Boozer had collected his rent without complaining about the colourful additions. The lawsuit was subsequently withdrawn “without prejudice”. Meanwhile, the quirky star is giving fans the chance to win special purple tickets to a private concert at his home. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse – or the man who always came to save America at the last moment – someone always came to save America at the last moment – especially in “B” movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan – and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at – like a “B” movie.”

I recall first seeing this picture in the Montreal Gazette and stared at it for about 2 minutes. The Government has currently detained two men on suspicion of terrorism, which I feel is against everything Canada stands for because the Govt hasnt charged the two men yet. To make things worse, there is no appeal process. So Tom, Dick and Harry went to protest at the Federal Government Building. If you are going to protest, at least spell the Guantanamo correctly.

MUHAMMED ALI’S 12TH ANNUAL CELEBRITY FIGHT NIGHT BENEFIT

In Film, General, Sports on March 21, 2006 at 7:05 pm

Muhammad Ali gave the lunatics the keys to the asylum last weekend when he invited Robin Williams and Jim Carrey to his 12th annual Celebrity Fight Night benefit. Both of them came to Phoenix to help the champ battle Parkinson’s disease. Accepting an award from the boxing legend, Williams wasted no time plopping himself on Ali’s lap and talking to him like he was Santa. “For those of you who are here to support Parkinson’s research,” said the comic, “I just want to remind you to keep lobbying: Third-generation stem cells are like using beef jerky for a skin transplant.” Williams also paid tribute to the late expletive-spewing comic Richard Pryor, The News’ Kasia Anderson reports. “I’d like to propose that, just like they retire jerseys in the NBA, we retire term ‘Mother-[bleeper]!’” Carrey noted that he and Ali share a birthday, then went searching for God. “I was born into the world with my arms like this, going, ‘God, I have a big funnel here — and I’m ready for all the gifts of the universe — for every blessing and bountiful goodness you have — bring it on! … It was hard on my mother! The doctor took a look and said, ‘Ah yes, he’s gotten ahold of an existential funnel. We’ll have to do a C-section!’” The wackiness may have infected Ali, who took to sneaking up behind his celeb guests during photo ops and making Devil horns. But clearly, he’s still on the side of the angels: The event raised $6 million. SOURCE

CARLOS SANTANA SPEAKS OUT AGAINST GEORGE BUSH

In General, Music, Politics on March 21, 2006 at 6:48 pm

Carlos Santana quoted his old friend Jimi Hendrix in an anti-war message Monday in Peru and said his philosophy is the antithesis of President George W. Bush’s. “I have wisdom. I feel love. I live in the present and I try to present a dimension that brings harmony and healing,” the 58-year-old rock icon said. “My concept is the opposite of George W. Bush.” Santana, speaking to Peruvian journalists ahead of a Tuesday concert, said young people’s opposition to the war in Iraq is reaching the dimensions of the anti-Vietnam war sentiment in the 1970s. “There is more value in placing a flower in a rifle barrel than making war,” he said. “As Jimi Hendrix used to say, musical notes have more importance than bullets.” In 1971, Santana was prevented from performing in Peru by the military dictatorship, which deemed his music an “alienating” force. Santana returned to perform in 1995.

Baghdad – American forces have dramatically increased air strikes in Iraq during the past five months, a change of tactics that may foreshadow how the United States plans to battle a still-strong insurgency while reducing the number of US ground troops serving here. A review of military data shows that daily bombing runs and jet-missile launches have increased by more than 50 percent in the past five months, compared with the same period last year. Knight Ridder’s statistical findings were reviewed and confirmed by American Air Force officials in the region. Read the rest of this entry »

“I’m gonna put a bullet in his f&%$in’ mummy head. I promise.”

Last Night’s episode of The sopranos “Join the club” was one of those freaky weird episodes. Tony wakes up in a hotel, heads out to the bar for a drink, loses his briefcase and wallet and cannot go back home but this all happening while he is in a coma. A group of business travelers heard about his dilemma and invited him to join them for dinner, in between their conversation Tony makes a statement that still has me thinking. “I’m 46 years old. I mean who am I? Where am I going?“. Tony lays in bed on a ventilator and the gun shot wound damaged his internal organs. There was a scene towards the end of the episode where Camerla is talking to Tony, asking him if he’s listening. It switches back to Tony in the Hotel room, staring at the phone but cant call home and there is a white light at the end of the city skyline. Weird.

Sandra Day O’Connor, a Republican-appointed judge who retired last month after 24 years on the U.S. Supreme Court, has said the U.S. is in danger of edging towards dictatorship if the party’s rightwingers continue to attack the judiciary. In a strongly worded speech at Georgetown University, reported by National Public Radio and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Ms. O’Connor took aim at Republican leaders whose repeated denunciations of the courts for alleged liberal bias could, she said, be contributing to a climate of violence against judges. Not everybody’s applauding Sidney Lumet’s “Find Me Guilty,” a courtroom drama about a real-life criminal trial in which Vin Diesel stars as Mafia wiseguy Jackie DiNorscio. But New Jersey resident Roe Guido, a 39-year-old mother of four, is a huge fan. She’s the daughter of DiNorscio, who successfully defended himself in the 21-month-long trial. “Vin did a great job, and I didn’t think he’d be able to do something like that, because I thought he was just an action hero,” Guido told me yesterday. “But nobody could have played my father better.”

Guido, whose father died of cancer in November 2004 at age 62 after spending more than half his life in prison, has been showering Diesel with praise since Monday’s New Jersey screening for friends, family and some of her dad’s running buddies who aren’t legally permitted to leave the state. “I just sent him a text message telling him that he made me and my father’s dreams come true. He was just impeccable.” SOURCE

MANDELA REVEALS PAST AS A PIG THIEF

In Film, General, Politics on March 17, 2006 at 8:17 pm

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa- Former South African President Nelson Mandela admitted youthful sins during a visit with the makers of the Oscar-winning film “Tsotsi.” Mandela said he identified with the main character of the film, a young gangster. As a teenager in South Africa’s rural Transkei region, Mandela herded livestock. He and friends would use the dregs of locally brewed beer to lure pigs from the village, the BBC reported. Once they were far away, the boys would stab, roast and eat the pigs, he said. “Some of the leaders of this country and elsewhere in the world started with misdemeanors of all kinds, but as they grew up, they became responsible people who have served our country very well,” Mandela said. Mandela thanked the makers of “Tsotsi” for putting South Africa “on the map,” but film director Gavin Hood responded that it was Mandela himself who had done this. “Without what you did, we would not have been able to make this film together as South Africans in a free country,” Hood said.

New York – H&R Block Inc. The suit seeks $250 million in fines plus refunds after H&R Block steered roughly 500,000 tax return customers to invest in individual retirement accounts, but failed to disclose high hidden fees that actually outpaced interest earned on the accounts, the attorney general said. As a result, about 85 percent of these customers lost money, Spitzer said. Read the rest of this entry »

MICHAEL FINALLY PAYS HIS NEVERLAND RANCH WORKERS

Michael Jackson has avoided another court case by paying employees at his Neverland Ranch $306,000 in outstanding wages. Staff at the ranch had been working unpaid since December 19 – and the troubled singer was given until March 15th to pay-up or face a possible lawsuit. State labour commissioner Robert Jones said in a statement: “There is no need to take legal action in this matter as our main concern, that all employees receive wages owed to them, is being addressed.” It is not known how many people had been working for Jackson without pay. The Department of Industrial Relations said that Neverland had 69 workers in December, but that “a lot of employees” had subsequently left. The pop star now has until March 24 to pay $69,000 in penalties for not carrying workers’ compensation insurance. He also faces fines of more than $100,000 for not paying up in the payroll department.

Dissatisfied with women’s attempts to “go ‘head get down,” Jamie Fox continues to sing “Gold Digger” 500 times a night at whatever club or party he happens to be at. Our spy at Teddy’s on Thursday night reports:

“He slid into the booth next to the DJ, popped champagne and quickly had a serious Gold Digger session going. The women were lining up to have a dance off in front of him. At one point he was on the dance floor pouring champagne into strangers mouths. He and Scarlett Johansson had a long moment together on the dance floor, no kissing at all but it seemed like he was giving her some advice or something? He carried on his circus until the place closed down.”

Well, it could be worse, we suppose. He could be going around singing “Unpredictable.” But seriously. Is the Jamie Foxx Era almost done? It was cute the first couple of times, but now it’s just starting to grate. However, the fact that he’s pouring booze straight into people’s mouths like it’s Spring Break in Cancun at Señor Frogs is hysterical. That he can keep doing. SOURCE

GEORGE HAS SOME TWO WORDS FOR GUTLESS DEMS

George Clooney has a message for Democratic office-holders who voted for the war in Iraq, only to claim later that they’d been misled by President Bush:”F–k you!”. The movie star’s argument — directed at the likes of presidential wannabes Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, John Kerry and John Edwards. Edwards is the only Senator thus far saying that voting for the war was a big mistake. “The fear of being criticized can be paralyzing,” Clooney writes today on Huffingtonpost.com — “Just look at the way so many Democrats caved in the runup to the war. In 2003, a lot of us were saying, where is the link between Saddam and Bin Laden? What does Iraq have to do with 9/11? We knew it was bulls—.
“Which is why it drives me crazy to hear all these Democrats saying, ‘We were misled.’ It makes me want to shout, ‘F— you, you weren’t misled. You were afraid of being called unpatriotic.’”Clooney exhorts the lily-livered Dems to stop being cowards and put some steel in their spines.”It’s not merely our right to question our government, it’s our duty. Whatever the consequences,” he lectures.”We can’t demand freedom of speech, then turn around and say, ‘But please don’t say bad things about us.’ You gotta be a grownup and take your hits.”

Paul Porter decried “Many of us are unhappy with the mixed messages the music industry continues to deliver. We have all seen ads for ring-tones, slickly marketed to target younger demos. Ring-tones for many youth are an expression of their identity. The music industry has effectively found a new revenue stream that mostly has gone unnoticed.” Read the rest of this entry »

JACKSON’S NEVERLAND RANCH SHUT DOWN

In General, Music on March 10, 2006 at 6:21 pm

Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was shut down on March 9th and he was fined around $169,000 for failing to pay or insure his workers for months. California officials ordered the eccentric star to “stop using any employee labour”, at the sprawling 2,700-acre ranch, until he obtains workers’ insurance. Local animal welfare officials are also monitoring the situation at Neverland and will remove Jackson’s zoo animals if necessary.

Jan Glick, animal services director, said: “We are keeping an eye on it.”

The enormous ranch features amusement park rides and a zoo that includes elephants, giraffes, snakes, orang-utans, tigers and a crocodile. Officials said Jackson, who has been living in Bahrain since his acquittal on child-molestation charges last June, has failed to pay more than 30 ranch workers since December. The figure in unpaid wages is believed to total at least $306,000. Authorities were alerted after a Neverland employee making an unpaid-wage claim remarked that a co-worker had been injured at work and was unsure about filing a claim due to the lapsed insurance.

Some old emotional wounds never heal. Former Black Panther and now Congressman Bobby L. Hampton, who was killed on Dec. 4, 1969 along with fellow Panther Mark Clark in a hail of bullets during an early morning raid by Chicago policemen on his apartment at 2337 W. Monroe, became the center of controversy in the city again on Monday after Ald. “Canada is known as a great nation,” the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted McCartney as saying. “But this is something that leaves a stain on the character of the Canadian people and we don’t think that’s right. I don’t think the vast amount of Canadians think that’s right.”

The couple told a news conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, they have “complete faith that Prime Minister Harper will take swift and decisive action to end the slaughter of these defenseless seal pups for good.”

Seal products were banned from the United States in 1972 and the Humane Society of the United States sponsored the McCartneys’ Canadian trip to try to pressure Canadian authorities to end the annual hunt.

WHO KNEW THE DONALD WAS THIS NICE?

In General on March 2, 2006 at 11:40 pm

Who knew that Donald Trump was such a friend of the little guy? When the reality television star heard that a waiter and a security guard at his Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago, found and returned a diamond-and-platinum bracelet lost by a female member at a recent Jay Leno-headlined dinner-dance, Trump was shocked to learn that the lady hadn’t tipped the two honest employees. Especially since the bracelet was worth $2 million, as Trump told another Mar-a-Lago guest, Outlaw Biker mag founder Casey Exton, who repeated the claim at New York’s Zocalo restaurant. So what did The Donald do? He phoned the lucky lady — who tells me the bauble is worth “far less than $2 million” — and shamed her into visiting the club on Sunday and leaving two cash-laden envelopes for the good samaritans. How much cash? “I don’t think that’s anybody’s business —that’s ugly,” the lady, not Martha Stewart, told me yesterday.

“WE ARE FULLY PREPARED”- BUSH

In General, Politics on March 2, 2006 at 6:03 pm

WASHINGTON – In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans’ Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage. Bush didn’t ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: “We are fully prepared.”

The footage — along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press — show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.Linked by secure video, Bush expressed a confidence on Aug. 28 that starkly contrasted with the dire warnings his disaster chief and numerous federal, state and local officials provided during the four days before the storm. The Army has decided to reimburse a Halliburton subsidiary for nearly all of its disputed costs on a $2.41 billion no-bid contract to deliver fuel and repair oil equipment in Iraq, even though the Pentagon’s own auditors had identified more than $250 million in charges as potentially excessive or unjustified. The Army said in response to questions on Friday that questionable business practices by the subsidiary, Kellogg Brown & Root, had in some cases driven up the company’s costs. But in the haste and peril of war, it had largely done as well as could be expected, the Army said, and aside from a few penalties, the government was compelled to reimburse the company for its costs. STANLEY CROUCH DOESNT LIKE THE N-WORD

In General on February 27, 2006 at 7:04 pm

One of the most repulsively fascinating facts about contemporary black popular culture is how it continues to reach fresh lows. It finds new ways of leaping all fences that would bar it from falling into a bottomless pit of tastelessness. All of the insults and burdens of minstrelsy have been bested by black comedians and rappers who have made stupidity, hedonism, pimping, misogyny, pornography and violence their stock in trade.
One defense of this amoral sense of life and culture is that black people didn’t invent any of it, so why shouldn’t they, like the white people, be able to make big money from it? As one imbecilic black man in television said to me, “I ain’t hating on these brothers. All they are doing is dealing with a market the same way that the white people do. This is capitalism and they’re responding to a market. You know the old saying, ‘Whatever the market will bear.’ ” Read the rest of this entry »

BLASPHEMY?

In General on February 26, 2006 at 9:42 pm

Muslims everywhere aint looking too good now, ever since the Prophet Muhammad Cartoons surfaced all hell broke loose. Now I know one of the rules written is the prophet is NEVER to be drawn or represented and I understand that. In this corner… weighing in at a mighty 36 words, hailing from the King James Version of the Holy Bible, it’s the third commandment, the word of the lord, our God… It’s Exodus 20:4!!

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”

Meanwhile in the Vatican City they have a chapel with a chip on its shoulder, a piece of art with over 8 years of painstaing work… The Sistine Chapel. Have you seen any christian run up in the chapel and try and burn it down, or ban italy products, burn the italian flag? If God can not be drawn or represented, then that picture above is Blasphemy! Movies like ‘Passion of the Christ’ and ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ should have never been made. We live in a society of ‘Jesus is my homeboy’ t-shirts, kanye even posed as Jesus for Rolling stone for crying out loud, calm your ass down. Plus We all know black people like to over do it. There have been riots and protests all around the world especially in the Middle east, islamic youths haved clased with cops, embassies have been destroyed. Northern Nigerian Muslims militants, cus that what they are, brainwashed by the protests on tv killed and burnt down churches and resulted in 66 people dead. The highest dead toll in relation to the cartoon. I remember the days my brother and I will fight over who’s watching what cartoon first.

MY DEAR FELLOW CLERGYMEN:
While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent statement calling my present activities “unwise and untimely.” Seldom do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticisms that cross my desk, my secretaries would have little time for anything other than such correspondence in the course of the day, and I would have no time for constructive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statements in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms. THE EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION

In General on February 25, 2006 at 6:37 pm

As early as 1849, Abraham Lincoln believed that slaves should be emancipated, advocating a program in which they would be freed gradually. Early in his presidency, still convinced that gradual emacipation was the best course, he tried to win over legistators. To gain support, he proposed that slaveowners be compensated for giving up their “property.” Support was not forthcoming.

In September of 1862, after the Union’s victory at Antietam, Lincoln issued a preliminary decree stating that, unless the rebellious states returned to the Union by January 1, freedom would be granted to slaves within those states. The decree also left room for a plan of compensated emancipation. No Confederate states took the offer, and on January 1 Lincoln presented the Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation declared, “all persons held as slaves within any States, or designated part of the State, the people whereof shall be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.”

The Emancipation Proclamation did not free all slaves in the United States. Rather, it declared free only those slaves living in states not under Union control. William Seward, Lincoln’s secretary of state, commented, “We show our symapthy with slavery by emancipating slaves where we cannot reach them and holding them in bondage where we can set them free.” Lincoln was fully aware of the irony, but he did not want to antagonize the slave states loyal to the Union by setting their slaves free.

The proclamation allowed black soldiers to fight for the Union — soldiers that were desperately needed. It also tied the issue of slavery directly to the war.

The video’s political statement seems almost softened to me by the masks/indictments of ‘leadership, the most significant footage isn’t the ‘empty promises’ symbolism but the ruins themselves.

From AHH Rumors:

COMMON SLAPS FIRE OUT OF HECKLNG SKINHEAD?

So, my man hit me up with a rumor he heard. Last week, Common was rocking at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I heard Com was rockin’ it b-boy style all the way down to the breakdancing. Shout out to Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Ced Coast 97.3, who I heard were in the house. Anyway, Common was wearing a shirt that stated “I Love Black People,” but there was a skinhead-looking fellow in the front row. I won’t say he was definitely a skinhead, but what he did next is a good indication that he was! The dude continuously heckled Com during the show and capped it off with a middle finger to the Chi-Town rapper. He must have thought it was sweet with Com, but I heard Sense wasn’t having it. I heard Com walked over to the skinhead and slapped the fire out of his racist face right in the middle of the damn show. The whole crowd went wild, I heard. Common reportedly said, “I don’t know what you thought but I am from the South Side of Chicago!” Security removed the man and the crowd gave him a beer shower on the way out. Eventually, the crowd calmed down and Common ushered peace back into the House…but, the skinhead left with the Blues!

If that’s true, I’m loving Com right now.

One of my appreciation for Jack Johnson and adoration and other words that begin with the letter “a” that mean good stuff, is the fact that he was a true fighter. I mean I watched the title fight against Jess Willard, and they stated that it was 105 degrees and he fought to the 26th Round. 26th round!! It was rumored that Johnson allowed himself to be knocked out because of his marriages to white women, against the law at the time, and his flamboyant lifestyle that the White man could not stand. He later on became a connoisseur of Harlem night life, eventually opened his own supper club, Club Deluxe, at 142nd Street and Lenox Avenue which was later turned into the Cotton Club. Johnson died in a car accident in 1946 after being forced to eat in the back of a white diner in Raleigh, North Carolina. Read the rest of this entry »

“You had President Clinton on your show, and if this [bleep] didn’t lie about a couple of things, I’m going to set myself on fire right now. James Frey is a writer, OK? He can write whatever he wants. It’s fiction, and it’s just hard, it’s just shameful how he was treated in some of these things.”

Willis says Justin Timberlake “was asked to play James Frey in the making of that book, and he waited and waited and listened to everyone and he said – ‘Have you heard of this magazine called In Touch magazine or Us Weekly or InStyle or People or any of these magazines? They lie about people and they just make up [bleep] all week long, and you have to sue them to get it changed.’

“This is the world that we live in. That’s approved and people go, ‘That’s OK,’ and people go, ‘Ooooo, someone is [bleeping] this person over here. Someone did this over here.’ And they’re all lies and no one is yelling at them. So let’s leave James Frey alone.”

Without pausing for breath, Willis turned on Entertainment Weekly, which recently wrote that “Die Hard IV” was one sequel they “didn’t want to see.”

EW “hates me,” he fumed. “They’ve hated me since they’ve been a magazine. F – - – them. And you can go tell them that.”

SAMUEL AND CURTIS DO MOVIE TOGETHER

In Film, General, Music on February 15, 2006 at 4:26 am

Seems like the Jacksons will be working together after all. If you recall Samuel L. Jackson stated that he doesnt want to star in movies with rappers, and Curtis ‘Fiddy Cent’ Jackson dissed him by calling him a ‘crackhead’. Well the two put their differences aside and will be starring in an upcoming movie on the war in Iraq. The Movie will be called “Home of the Brave”. The Movie will follow three Soldiers who return home and find it difficult to adjust. It would be good to see fiddy in this movie, just cause i will like to see if this idiot can play any other character than a ‘Gangster’.

HAPPY FEB. 14TH

In General on February 15, 2006 at 2:37 am

I love Valentine’s Day, I think it is great we have one day a year to put aside everything and concentrate on our significant other. Actually, I think it is sad we need a holiday to make us do something romantic. The nature of Valentine’s Day is pure and caring and all around “sexy”. Think of all the creative, romantic, and sexual occurrences on that one day a year.Think about it, every day of the year nobody cares if you have a significant other, but suddenly it’s Valentine’s Day and it is everyone’s business what your “plans” are or what “gift” you received. It’s even worse that most gifts are public displays of affection. Don’t we do this on any other holiday? Listen nobody cares you received flowers, secretly they probably want to stub you in the eye because all you can talk about all day is, “hey did you see the five dozen roses mr Romantic sent me?” “No, because you fucking ego is blocking my view!!” I am not saying you all should label me as “Mr Fuck-Valentine’s day”, Dig a little deep and do something special today. This also does not mean expensive, its about being meaningful. Trust me your significant other will remember a Valentine’s Day that you made her laugh, cry (happy tears), and fall in love all over again. Excuse me, I have to look for that red teddy bear with the chocolate and rip off its head. Happy Valentine’s Day.

COMMON SITS WITH TAVIS SMILEY

Common was nominated for 5 Grammies for his phenomenal album entitled BE. Tavis Smiley who is a huge fan of Common hosted him before the Grammies to get his perspective. Common relayed that “music deserves a messages” and despite the idea that some of his prior work did not go gold in sales he never lost faith in his ideas. However Common fills that the time is right in the world for his message because people are saying”ok, I will rock to this or that but I am not going to play this in the home… I dont listen to a lot of stuff that is on the radio.I think some of this imagery is false and contrived”

In a refreshing turn Common told Tavis that he no longers want to fight against the label of being a concious artist. ” I used to think that the label was bad and that they were trying to box me in and seperate me from other rappers but if Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Steve Wonder and KRS1 are labeled as aware or concious artist then that’s a category I want to be in.” Before leaving Common testified to his strong friendship with Kanye West who produced over 80% of the albums tracks. Telling Tavis the BE album ” didnt start out with Kanye because he was working on somebody else album but I came in the studio and he offered me an amazing track”, this was the begining but not the genesis of the relationship. Common admits “when I first met him back in the day in Chicago, he used to talk a lot of yang and was shallow but now he is just so mature and evolved now , so the relationship just jelled to the point where the album was spectacular.”

After the stunt Kanye West pulled at the Grammys with the “THANK YOU LIST” and the “I TOLD YOU SO” signs, you’d think Kanye would learn. Nope! Now he wants to make history and be written into the Bible! Kanye West was quoted saying, “I bring up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them. I’m an inspirational speaker. I changed the sound of music more than one time… For all those reasons, I’d be a part of the Bible. I’m definitely in the history books already.”

DEF JAM SIGNS RICK ROSS

Def Jam president Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has announced the signing of Miami rapper Rick Ross in a distribution deal with Def Jam, Ross’s single “Hustlin” has generated a nationwide buzz on hip-hop airwaves. Ross, who has repped the Miami underground scene since the late 1990s, remains on Slip-N-Slide Records. Rumors of bidding wars began circulating in early January, including talks with Atlantic Recordings, Cash Money Records, and Bad Boy Entertainment. Last year when Young Jeezy stepped away from the Atlanta group Boyz N Da Hood, Ross was considered his potential replacement after appearing on their 2005 self-titled album, but the deal never came to fruition.

“I sat down with a lot of people and ultimately [Def Jam] came with the best situation,” Ross explained. “I feel comfortable with their system. It’s obvious they know what they’re doing. We wanna win big. They wanna win big. So we knocked it out.”

Ross’s debut album, “Career Criminal,” is already scheduled to hit stores by summer, and is set to feature a vocal appearance by Jay-Z.

SPIKE LEE VS. GANGSTA RAP

In Film, General, Music on February 10, 2006 at 8:46 pm

Spike Lee is a man known in Hollywood with many slashes -director/actor/writer/producer/outspoken social critic. On Wednesday night, the 48-year-old Lee retained the latter crown, poking fun at Florida Gov. Jeb Bush – and his brother – and speaking out against a “gangsta” mentality among some blacks and a mass media that cashes in on it. “No one gets upset that pimpdom gets elevated on a pedestal,” he said, repeatedly making references to Snoop Dogg and lambasting the rapper’s stereotype-fueled comedy “Soul Plane. “We are bombarded by these (’gangsta’) images again and again and again and again. They do make a difference on human behavior,” said Lee, adding that he thinks allowing a child to sit in front of a television unsupervised should be a criminal act. Lee, who has directed music videos, criticized “gangsta” rap videos for their portrayal of women as “ho’s.” He accused these rappers of “cooning” – a reference to an old racial slur that framed blacks as uneducated and primative. “African-Americans are known all over the world from these videos,” he said

50 CENT TO THE GAME: “NOT RICH, STILL TRYIN”

In General, Hood News, Music on February 9, 2006 at 10:39 pm

With all the hype and controversy surrounding the petty little beef between The Game and Fiddy, ‘Mr Interscope’ has fired back. Seems like Fiddy is tired of this little riff-raff breaking in and destroying his property. Throughout the entire track, titled ‘Not Rich, Still tryin’, Fiddy rhymes from Game’s perspective and even impersonates his voice and flow.

“I will say, however, that this track is pure comedy. In true 50 Cent fashion, the trash talk at the end of the song is actually better than the song itself. Curtis is obviously trying to return to the glory days of the pre-GRODT mixtapes when he was dismantling Ja’s career before our very eyes, but unless he stops acting like he’s afraid to make a serious dis track, I can’t imagine that ever happening again. If anything, Game will end his own career before 50 ever does.”- Nahright

Alot of peeps wanna know if Mr Carter is indeed going to retaliate and release one of those “million dollar diss records”. It’s been about a month since Nas signed with Def Jam, and now the alliance has become official: He and Jay are on the same team. My fingers have been crossed, waiting for a diss record from both Jay-z and Nas airing Camron and the dipshits out. According to rumors, there is an interview with both Jay and Nas which would be aired on BET. Nas has some very harsh words for the harlem diplomat.

Nas:  Some of these artists that come at artists have everything you could
tear down in a rhyme.  Just look at them.  Just look at their appearance,
look what they sound like, how they got in the game.  The whole history of
their existence in rap is a joke.  I just don’t understand the nerve of some
of these dudes.

BET: To be attacking guys like y’all.

Nas:  Not even.  Less than that.  The nerve.  An earring like that [holds
fingers to his ear, indicating a large earring]?

The Quote is reference to those ridiculous big square earrings that Cam’ron wears.

“Hey Dad, thanks for teaching me all about multiculturalism and diversity and how groovy it is being real. I am having a great time here in South Chicago and I’m meeting a lot of new friends. You were right, black people are more in tune with soul culture and they do seem to have an intrinsic beat. And man, talk about libido. I can barely keep up! Anyhoo, not exactly sure why you and mom keep crying on the phone but I’ll come back home eventually. PS: Black Power!”

CAM SUED AFTER “IMFAMOUS RUCKER PARK INCIDENT”

In General, Hood News, Music on February 7, 2006 at 3:30 am

By Nahright

SOHH has a report up alledging that Cam filed suit against “an unknown assailant” after being assaulted during what has now come to be referred to as “The Infamous Rucker Park Incident”. This is confusing to me for a couple of reasons. First of all, if he sued somebody from Junior Mafia, wouldn’t Cease have brought that up on the Cocaine City DVD when he shows the beatdown video? It seems to me like that revelation would be way more damaging to Cam and the Dips then a video of them catching a bad one or something like, oh I don’t know, Jim Jones’ Catholic school picture could ever be. After all, anybody can get caught slipping, but you have to purposely go into court and file a lawsuit.

Second, from what I saw of that video, Cam was too busy doing a flawless Michael Johnson impersonation to have gotten touched during that incident. It’s hard to get beat down when your pursuers can’t find you. Still, if you read the police report from that day it does state that Mr. Giles was “knocked to the ground and kicked” by 15 attackers. And I know what you’re thinking but no, the police report alone doesn’t really prove anything because the police were probably called to the hospital because it was a case of assault. Who knows. I expect Killa to announce a press conference anyday now to either refute these claims or attack Jay-Z for his lackluster cuff link selection or whatever fashion violation he’s riding against this week.

DAVE CHAPPELLE ON OPRAH

In General on February 7, 2006 at 3:22 am

I was lucky enough to check the Dave Chappelle’s “couch sharing” with Oprah. If you didnt,  Oprah.com has most of the interview and whatnot posted. Here is a snippet:

Some people said Dave had gone crazy or was on drugs. Some media reported Dave was locked in a mental institution.

In reality, Dave says, he went to South Africa to slow down. How could he have just left like that? “One, I needed a break,” he says. “Two, we have family and friends down there. I felt like it was a place where I could really reflect… And here’s the other thing: I was only gone for two weeks! They made it sound like it was so mysterious.” Read the rest of this entry »

BUSTA RHYMES BANGED NICOLE RICHIE

In General, Paperazzi on February 7, 2006 at 3:14 am

Busta Rhymes was on a radio station doing an interview recently and was asked some very hard questions. Busta was asked Whats the last celeb you slept with? His repy: ”Lionel Richie’s daughter got it real quick.” Me personally, I’m proud of Nicole for the simple fact that I thought she didn’t even like black guys.  So she’s not a sellout, she just wants to keep her afro-relations on a low.

More evidence has surfaced of Africans in the Americans dating back to 1550’s.
Researchers have found the remains of African slaves in a 16th century Mexican graveyard, confirming historical accounts of African travels to the New World. The graves were discovered near the ruins of a colonial church in Campeche, Mexico, a port on the Yucatán peninsula. The authors of the study, details of which were published Tuesday, say the remains are the earliest physical evidence of African slaves in North America to his knowledge. The fact the Eagles badly whiffed on their attempt to reach a second straight Super Bowl hasn’t stopped them from making lots of news here at the site of the NFL title game between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers.
