BUSTA CHAMPAGNE BOTTLE’D DAVID MAYS

In General, Hood News, Music on March 31, 2006 at 6:15 pm

According to the NY Daily News. Busta Rhymes took a page out of Naomi Campbell playbook and sent an adversary to the hospital this week after braining him with a Champagne bottle. The rapper, who was in Miami for the Winter Music Conference, has a serious beef with deposed Source publisher David Mays. The pair got into a brawl Sunday night at the Miami hot spot Opium, sending Mays to the hospital to clean up a gash in his noggin, two sources tell us. Rhymes’ entourage hasn’t been talking about the incident, and Mays hasn’t gone to the police. It is the same hip-hop omerta that has plagued the NYPD's investigation into the slaying of Israel Ramirez, in Brooklyn in February. But one witness to the Miami assault tells us: "Mays got around 50 stitches in the back of the head." Many of the artists on Busta’s management company, Violator, including 50 Cent and Eminem, have had a problem with Mays over his coverage of them in The Source. Busta’s rep didn’t return calls, and Mays was tight-lipped when we contacted him. "I ain’t talking about that," he said, before hanging up the phone.

"At the beginning of his rule, Babangida did try to live up to his self-bestowed mantle as a restorer of human rights, releasing many politicians detained under the Buhari regime, but this patina wore off as time went by. Despite his initial promises to do so, Babangida never did get around to abolishing the notorious State Security (Detention of Persons) Decree Number 2, which established the right of the government to detain for six months any individual deemed dangerous solely on his say-so, without any right to a trial or even habeas corpus." This is according to wikipedia.com. I was pretty much a baby when General Ibrahim Babangida was in power and I was raised through his regime, and I know for a fact. We as Nigerians DO NOT NEED another Military dictator-turned-politican to run Nigeria. Obasanjo was enough. Check out this link that was sent to me.

SURVIVAL OF THE RICHEST

In General on March 30, 2006 at 11:46 pm

The concept of the WB's new "Survival of the Richest" is to take wealthy and pampered young people, who have never worked in their lives, and team them with young, debt-ridden working-class stiffs. Six mismatched teams, trying to work together and learn from one another, in an upstairs-downstairs variation on "Beauty and the Geek." But the same network's "Beauty and the Geek," from Ashton Kutcher, is warm-hearted and entertaining. "Survival of the Richest," premiering tomorrow night at 8, is cold-hearted and dreadful. TED TURNER BLAST BUSH AND MEDIA

"There’s an awful lot of superfluous news, the pervert of the day and someone that shot seven people at a fraternity party," Turner told a crowd gathered at a downtown hotel. "Who needs it all?" BUSTA WAS BLEEPING MAD IN MIAMI

In General, Hood News, Music on March 30, 2006 at 10:28 pm

According to a NY tabloid written by popular Gossip columnist Richard Johnson rapper Bust Rhymes went ballistic on a young gay fan who dared to tap the rapper on the shoulder after a night of clubbing in Miami. Rhymes, who was in South Beach for the Winter Music Conference, has been on edge ever since one of his security guards, Israel Ramirez, was shot dead last month in Brooklyn while guarding Rhymes’ jewelry. But it seems nothing makes the rapper’s temper flare faster than the unwanted touch of an effeminate man. The drama unfolded at the 11th Street Diner, which is next door to gay club Twist, early Sunday morning. "The restaurant was packed with transvestites, gay men and drag queens, which obviously made Busta a little edgy," eyewitness Thomas Barker e-mails. "This became evident when a young gay guy came up behind Busta and tapped him on the shoulder to congratulate the rapper on his recent comeback. Before the guy could even mutter a word, Busta turned around and repeatedly screamed, ‘Why the [bleep] you touchin’ me, man? Get the [bleep] away from me’ . . . his two huge bodyguards then caused an even larger scene by pushing the kid away . . . Busta quietly whispered to his bodyguards, ‘I hate [bleeping] faggots, man.’ " A spokeswoman for Rhymes did not return calls.

WEEKEND RELEASE OF ATL’ FILM RAISES SECURITY

In Film, General, Music on March 30, 2006 at 9:37 pm

By RICHARD L. ELDREDGE of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Could a coming-of-age film set at a Southside Atlanta skating rink translate into overtime for mall cops next weekend? That was the not-so-subtle implication of a memo about the upcoming movie "ATL" that was e-mailed this week to seven shopping centers: Perimeter, Cumberland, Discover Mills, NorthPoint, Oglethorpe, Southlake and Augusta malls. In the memo, Valor Security Service Perimeter Mall security director W. Mark Crowell warns: "On March 31, the movie ‘ATL’ will be released in theaters. A theater manager at one of our properties has alerted the mall team that this movie could cause potential behavior problems. The movie trailer indicates that themes in the movie include moral choices and narcotics trafficking … Please appropriately prepare your security staffs for the release of this movie." SUGE KNIGHT IS BROKE

In General, Hood News, Music on March 30, 2006 at 9:21 pm

A judge said on Thursday he would take control of Marion "Suge" Knight’s assets, including his Death Row Records label, after finding the rap mogul had avoided paying a $107 million civil court judgment. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald Sohigian said Knight, who co-founded Death Row with rapper Dr. Dre in the early 1990s and helped launch the careers of performers Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur, could stave off the order if he fully disclosed his assets in a debtor’s exam set for April 1.Sohigian said he would appoint a court officer to take over Knight’s finances because he had failed to make good on a $107 million judgment won last March by Lydia Harris, who claimed he cheated her out of a 50 percent stake in the rap label."Because he had a long history of deceiving the court and avoiding payment, I asked the court to appoint a receiver to take over," Harris’ attorney, Rex Julian Beaber, said. "If Knight cooperates in providing the information, he can ask the court to remove the receiver. But I don’t think there’s a chance in hell Knight is going to cooperate.

Lionel Richie always seemed like one of the good guys. I interviewed him many times back in the ’70s and found him friendly, funny, gregarious, a great guy to be around. So it has always surprised me that his daughter is such an idiot. Maybe I shouldn’t care. There’s a lot going on in the world right now – war, famine, bigotry, war – and one could argue that these things matter a lot more than the idiocy of Richie’s 25-year-old adopted daughter. But Nicole Richie’s disturbing little stunt two weeks ago in Castaic, Calif., has stayed with me ever since I read about it. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Richie, trailing a camera crew, was pushing a baby carriage down the street for the latest mutation of her TV show, "The Simple Life," when she happened upon an 11-year-old boy playing basketball in his driveway. 50 CENT STILL SHIT TALKING

In General, Hood News, Music on March 27, 2006 at 11:54 pm

If you can stomach the incessant dickriding from Ms. Jones and whoever the other clown on the show is, here is some audio of 50 on Hot 97 this morning. With the GRODT DVD dropping today and Mobb Deep release date steadily approaching, 50 is of course in prime talk shit mode. Among the topics discussed:

  • He claims he had nothing to do with Styles P’s album being pushed back.
  • Responding to Spike Lee’s invitation to sit in on one of his film classes, 50 says Spike doesn’t have anything to offer him.
  • He also speaks on the NOT AT ALL SUBLIMINAL shot Spike took in Inside Man, and wonders why people are mad at his game but not something like GTA.
  • Says Game went to the wrong house in his Stop Snitching Stop Lying DVD.
  • Takes more shots at Kanye West.
  • When asked if he will ever be President of Interscope records states: "I’m already the president of Interscope Records"
  • Speaks on Carmen’s book and says it’s all business and that Nas should have put his foot in her ass a long time ago.
  • On down south music: "They don’t want to think, they want to have a good time."
  • Criticizes Puff for how he jerked Big and says he’s "running him into the ground."

So, none of these comments are really anything new, but if I didn’t post it I might be accused of ‘hating’ by the Stanley’s. Plus, I figure there’s enough material here to occupy the commenters for the next 24 hours or so. Enjoy…

RULE TO BEING A SUAVE BLOKE

In General on March 27, 2006 at 7:10 pm

The Rule to being a provocative Bloke. The main key to being a suave bloke like me is getting other common folks to buy into the bullshit you are embracing without scolding anybody in the process. The strategy I like to use is comedy, make people laugh. People don't like scolders and women don't like being scolded. My shriek, Ms. Charles, tells me time after time that I am an asshole. Probably what I need is a help group like Alcoholics Anonymous, more like Assholes Anonymous. See I am not scared to let the asshole out from time to time and its should be a practice that all should try. But there lies a problem behind that, as long as you dont piss people off in the process you are fine. People's feeling get hurt easily and you dont wanna make them feel like you are better than them but the impression should be "sexier" not "better". Always understand the difference.

At the same time, in order to be suave you cant be looking over your shoulder worrying about what other idiots are thinking after you do something. For example, when Kanye proclaim to the whole world that George W doesnt about black people, he didnt care what the outcome was. Do not question yourself, just make it happen. I do sometimes say alot of stupid shit like kanye. you can't go around trying to make people feel better about themselves by explaining yourself all the time. Do you and someobdy will get you some of the time. Point blank I'm a fucking problem, capiche. I'm out.

JACKO WANTS TO MEET ALIENS

Bahrain resident Michael Jackson is allegedly eager to meet aliens from other galaxies. PR guy Mike Luckman - director of the New York Center for Extraterrestrial Research and author of the Pocket Books-VH1 release “Alien Rock: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Extraterrestrial Connection” – claims Jackson personally told him so. “Michael indicated to me that he is open to making contact with otherworldly beings,” Luckman said, adding that his never-before-revealed conversation with Jackson lasted for 15 minutes during a well-publicized visit (before Jacko’s child-molestation trial) to the famed magic store Abracadabra on 21st St. in Chelsea. Store owner Paul Blum confirmed Luckman’s close encounter, in late 2003. But Jackson’s spokeswoman, Raymone Bain, told me: “I wouldn’t doubt that he was in the store,” but insisted that if her client talked to Luckman, “He was only being polite.” Luckman’s account? “That is pure bull,” Bain said. CHARLIE SHEEN QUESTIONS 9/11 EVENTS

In Film, General, Politics on March 23, 2006 at 10:22 pm

Charlie Sheen has accused the US government of covering up the real events of September 11. The heartthrob actor has revealed he doesn’t believe the official account of the atrocity in 2001. He told GGN Radio Network’s ‘The Alex Jones Show’: “It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box-cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 per cent of their targets feels like a conspiracy theory. It raises a lot of questions.” The actor also said he was suspicious about the cause of the Twin Towers collapse, saying it looked like a “controlled demolition”. The ‘Two and a Half Men’ star – who has two children with estranged wife Denise Richards – also reportedly questioned the way a plane managed to hit the Pentagon. Sheen thinks the public need to uncover the real version of events for the sake of the victims and those who lost their loved ones. He said: “It is up to us to reveal the truth. It is up to us because we owe it to the families, we owe it to the victims, we owe it to everyone’s life that was drastically altered, horrifically, that day and forever. “We owe it to them to uncover what happened.”

Then start to deal with why that is.”The “Be Without You” singer also says that Houston’s issues may be rooted in her own unhappiness. “It’s probably more than just drugs,” she says. “You get addicted to drugs and alcohol because you want to drown out all the problems in your life.”Describing herself as “a work in progress,” Blige says her current insight is the result of a long, hard journey that began when she looked in the mirror and began holding that person responsible for her problems, not others. Many of her lessons were handed down by a good friend and confidant, Chaka Khan.

Prince was slapped with a lawsuit – for painting his rented mansion with bright purple stripes. The 80s superstar reportedly customised the £40,000-a-month Hollywood home by covering it with purple lines and his personalised ‘Prince’ symbol. He was also accused of daubing ‘3121′, the title of his new album, on the house and installing a monogrammed carpet – also in his beloved purple – in the master bedroom. His landlord, NBA star Carlos Boozer, lodged a lawsuit against the singer in January. But the star’s lawyers insisted Boozer had collected his rent without complaining about the colourful additions. The lawsuit was subsequently withdrawn “without prejudice”. Meanwhile, the quirky star is giving fans the chance to win special purple tickets to a private concert at his home. The singer is hiding a small number of the ‘Willy Wonka’ style tickets in his new album and single ‘Black Sweat’ which are released this month. Fans who buy the lucky CDs will win an ‘Evening with Prince’ – a trip to the reclusive singer’s home to see the one-off performance. “The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can – even if it’s only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse – or the man who always came to save America at the last moment – someone always came to save America at the last moment – especially in “B” movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan – and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at – like a “B” movie.”

Muhammad Ali gave the lunatics the keys to the asylum last weekend when he invited Robin Williams and Jim Carrey to his 12th annual Celebrity Fight Night benefit. Both of them came to Phoenix to help the champ battle Parkinson’s disease. Accepting an award from the boxing legend, Williams wasted no time plopping himself on Ali’s lap and talking to him like he was Santa. “For those of you who are here to support Parkinson’s research,” said the comic, “I just want to remind you to keep lobbying: Third-generation stem cells are like using beef jerky for a skin transplant.” Williams also paid tribute to the late expletive-spewing comic Richard Pryor, The News’ Kasia Anderson reports. “I’d like to propose that, just like they retire jerseys in the NBA, we retire term ‘Mother-[bleeper]!’” Carrey noted that he and Ali share a birthday, then went searching for God. “I was born into the world with my arms like this, going, ‘God, I have a big funnel here — and I’m ready for all the gifts of the universe — for every blessing and bountiful goodness you have — bring it on! … It was hard on my mother! The doctor took a look and said, ‘Ah yes, he’s gotten ahold of an existential funnel. We’ll have to do a C-section!’” The wackiness may have infected Ali, who took to sneaking up behind his celeb guests during photo ops and making Devil horns. But clearly, he’s still on the side of the angels: The event raised $6 million. SOURCE

CARLOS SANTANA SPEAKS OUT AGAINST GEORGE BUSH

I live in the present and I try to present a dimension that brings harmony and healing,” the 58-year-old rock icon said. “My concept is the opposite of George W. Bush.” Santana, speaking to Peruvian journalists ahead of a Tuesday concert, said young people’s opposition to the war in Iraq is reaching the dimensions of the anti-Vietnam war sentiment in the 1970s. “There is more value in placing a flower in a rifle barrel than making war,” he said. “As Jimi Hendrix used to say, musical notes have more importance than bullets.” In 1971, Santana was prevented from performing in Peru by the military dictatorship, which deemed his music an “alienating” force. Santana returned to perform in 1995.

Tony wakes up in a hotel, heads out to the bar for a drink, loses his briefcase and wallet and cannot go back home but this all happening while he is in a coma. A group of business travelers heard about his dilemma and invited him to join them for dinner, in between their conversation Tony makes a statement that still has me thinking. “I’m 46 years old. I mean who am I? Where am I going?“. Tony lays in bed on a ventilator and the gun shot wound damaged his internal organs. There was a scene towards the end of the episode where Camerla is talking to Tony, asking him if he’s listening. It switches back to Tony in the Hotel room, staring at the phone but cant call home and there is a white light at the end of the city skyline. Weird.

SANDRA DAY O’CONNOR WARNS OF AMERICAN DICTATORSHIP

In General, Politics on March 20, 2006 at 6:04 pm

by Julian Borger in Washington

Sandra Day O’Connor, a Republican-appointed judge who retired last month after 24 years on the U.S. Supreme Court, has said the U.S. is in danger of edging towards dictatorship if the party’s rightwingers continue to attack the judiciary. In a strongly worded speech at Georgetown University, reported by National Public Radio and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Ms. O’Connor took aim at Republican leaders whose repeated denunciations of the courts for alleged liberal bias could, she said, be contributing to a climate of violence against judges. I happened to come across a very interesting website which showcased a gripping series of comparison shots dealing with the Tsunami that hit Thailand back in 2004. I have posted some of the images from the website, for more pictures and a better view you should visit the website and see it for yourself. According to the website-

As an ex disaster specialist I still have many friends working in the field all over the world and in the year following the Asian Tsunami I kept in close contact with them. Just as I expected I soon began to hear stories of how western money coupled with the tourism industry was rebuilding Thailand in record speed while Sri Lanka was still struggling and Banda Aceh was left only with resources for making baby steps.” Read the rest of this entry »

SIDNEY LUMENT’S “FIND ME GUILTY”

In Film, General on March 17, 2006 at 8:22 pm

Not everybody’s applauding Sidney Lumet’s “Find Me Guilty,” a courtroom drama about a real-life criminal trial in which Vin Diesel stars as Mafia wiseguy Jackie DiNorscio. But New Jersey resident Roe Guido, a 39-year-old mother of four, is a huge fan. She’s the daughter of DiNorscio, who successfully defended himself in the 21-month-long trial. “Vin did a great job, and I didn’t think he’d be able to do something like that, because I thought he was just an action hero,” Guido told me yesterday. “But nobody could have played my father better.”

Guido, whose father died of cancer in November 2004 at age 62 after spending more than half his life in prison, has been showering Diesel with praise since Monday’s New Jersey screening for friends, family and some of her dad’s running buddies who aren’t legally permitted to leave the state. “I just sent him a text message telling him that he made me and my father’s dreams come true. He was just impeccable.” SOURCE

MANDELA REVEALS PAST AS A PIG THIEF

In Film, General, Politics on March 17, 2006 at 8:17 pm

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa- Former South African President Nelson Mandela admitted youthful sins during a visit with the makers of the Oscar-winning film “Tsotsi.” Mandela said he identified with the main character of the film, a young gangster. As a teenager in South Africa’s rural Transkei region, Mandela herded livestock. He and friends would use the dregs of locally brewed beer to lure pigs from the village, the BBC reported. Once they were far away, the boys would stab, roast and eat the pigs, he said. “Some of the leaders of this country and elsewhere in the world started with misdemeanors of all kinds, but as they grew up, they became responsible people who have served our country very well,” Mandela said. Mandela thanked the makers of “Tsotsi” for putting South Africa “on the map,” but film director Gavin Hood responded that it was Mandela himself who had done this. “Without what you did, we would not have been able to make this film together as South Africans in a free country,” Hood said.

SPITZER CHARGES H&R BLOCK WITH FRAUD

New York – H&R Block Inc. (HRB.N) the largest U.S. tax preparer, fraudulently marketed retirement savings plans that caused hundreds of thousands of mostly low-income clients to lose money, New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer charged in a lawsuit filed on Wednesday. The suit seeks $250 million in fines plus refunds after H&R Block steered roughly 500,000 tax return customers to invest in individual retirement accounts, but failed to disclose high hidden fees that actually outpaced interest earned on the accounts, the attorney general said. As a result, about 85 percent of these customers lost money, Spitzer said. Read the rest of this entry »

MICHAEL FINALLY PAYS HIS NEVERLAND RANCH WORKERS

In General, Music on March 16, 2006 at 7:18 pm

Michael Jackson has avoided another court case by paying employees at his Neverland Ranch $306,000 in outstanding wages. Staff at the ranch had been working unpaid since December 19 – and the troubled singer was given until March 15th to pay-up or face a possible lawsuit. State labour commissioner Robert Jones said in a statement: “There is no need to take legal action in this matter as our main concern, that all employees receive wages owed to them, is being addressed.” It is not known how many people had been working for Jackson without pay. The Department of Industrial Relations said that Neverland had 69 workers in December, but that “a lot of employees” had subsequently left. The pop star now has until March 24 to pay $69,000 in penalties for not carrying workers’ compensation insurance. He also faces fines of more than $100,000 for not paying up in the payroll department.

Dissatisfied with women’s attempts to “go ‘head get down,” Jamie Fox continues to sing “Gold Digger” 500 times a night at whatever club or party he happens to be at. Our spy at Teddy’s on Thursday night reports:

“He slid into the booth next to the DJ, popped champagne and quickly had a serious Gold Digger session going. The women were lining up to have a dance off in front of him. At one point he was on the dance floor pouring champagne into strangers mouths. He and Scarlett Johansson had a long moment together on the dance floor, no kissing at all but it seemed like he was giving her some advice or something? He carried on his circus until the place closed down.”

Well, it could be worse, we suppose. He could be going around singing “Unpredictable.” But seriously. Is the Jamie Foxx Era almost done? It was cute the first couple of times, but now it’s just starting to grate. However, the fact that he’s pouring booze straight into people’s mouths like it’s Spring Break in Cancun at Señor Frogs is hysterical. That he can keep doing. SOURCE

GEORGE HAS SOME TWO WORDS FOR GUTLESS DEMS

In Film, General, Politics on March 13, 2006 at 6:45 pm

George Clooney has a message for Democratic office-holders who voted for the war in Iraq, only to claim later that they’d been misled by President Bush:”F–k you!”. The movie star’s argument — directed at the likes of presidential wannabes Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, John Kerry and John Edwards. Edwards is the only Senator thus far saying that voting for the war was a big mistake. “The fear of being criticized can be paralyzing,” Clooney writes today on Huffingtonpost.com — “Just look at the way so many Democrats caved in the runup to the war. In 2003, a lot of us were saying, where is the link between Saddam and Bin Laden? What does Iraq have to do with 9/11? We knew it was bulls—.
“Which is why it drives me crazy to hear all these Democrats saying, ‘We were misled.’ It makes me want to shout, ‘F— you, you weren’t misled. You were afraid of being called unpatriotic.’”Clooney exhorts the lily-livered Dems to stop being cowards and put some steel in their spines.”It’s not merely our right to question our government, it’s our duty. Whatever the consequences,” he lectures.”We can’t demand freedom of speech, then turn around and say, ‘But please don’t say bad things about us.’ You gotta be a grownup and take your hits.”

THUGABOO

Everybody wants to know why the Wayans are calling there animated show “Thugaboo”.The series of three specials will premiere on Nickelodeon, then air on the network’s all-animation channel, Nicktoons, a network spokeswoman said Wednesday.Inspired by the Wayans brothers’ favorite childhood cartoons, “Thugaboo” follows the misadventures of nine kids growing up in the inner city.

“It’s like hard meets soft,” Shawn Wayans told The Associated Press. “The thug is how they dress, kind of street, but they’re good kids and they make the right decisions.”

The first episode, set to air in August, will have a back-to-school theme, said Nickelodeon spokeswoman Marianne Romano. The second will focus on the holidays, she said. The third, called “Don’t Judge a Boo by its Cover,” addresses how appearances can be misleading, Shawn Wayans said. The aim of the specials, Marlon Wayans said in a statement, is to get kids laughing “by creating characters they can relate to while entertaining their parents at the same time.” The Wayans again go against the grain and dont think that another thug title is a bad thing for kids.
“As a parent, I think it’s important for kids to have a source of entertainment that deals with life in positive and comedic ways,” said Keenen Ivory Wayans.

JACKSON’S NEVERLAND RANCH SHUT DOWN

In General, Music on March 10, 2006 at 6:21 pm

Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was shut down on March 9th and he was fined around $169,000 for failing to pay or insure his workers for months. California officials ordered the eccentric star to “stop using any employee labour”, at the sprawling 2,700-acre ranch, until he obtains workers’ insurance. Local animal welfare officials are also monitoring the situation at Neverland and will remove Jackson’s zoo animals if necessary.

Jan Glick, animal services director, said: “We are keeping an eye on it.”

The enormous ranch features amusement park rides and a zoo that includes elephants, giraffes, snakes, orang-utans, tigers and a crocodile. Officials said Jackson, who has been living in Bahrain since his acquittal on child-molestation charges last June, has failed to pay more than 30 ranch workers since December. The figure in unpaid wages is believed to total at least $306,000. Authorities were alerted after a Neverland employee making an unpaid-wage claim remarked that a co-worker had been injured at work and was unsure about filing a claim due to the lapsed insurance.

Hampton, who was killed on Dec. 4, 1969 along with fellow Panther Mark Clark in a hail of bullets during an early morning raid by Chicago policemen on his apartment at 2337 W. Monroe, became the center of controversy in the city again on Monday after Ald. Madeline Haithcock (2nd) pushed through an ordinance in the City Council’s Transportation Committee to rename a portion of West Monroe Street as “Chairman Fred Hampton Way.” Read the rest of this entry »

Many people dismissed a movie about a Memphis pimp going through a mid-life crisis who turns to rap for his salvation. It was called ‘trite’, ‘exploitative’ and corny. But it was one of the best movies of 2005. The film’s title song “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp” had heads boppin’ in movie theatres, but no one would’ve guessed that the song, by Three 6 Mafia would’ve won an Oscar. Source magazine co-owners Dave Mays and Ray Benzino scored a legal victory on Friday (March 3rd), when a judge blocked Mays and Benzino’s ownership interest in the magazine from being sold. New York State Supreme Court Judge Richard B. Lowe III has decided to uphold the temporary restraining order that blocked the auction of their company stock by Black Enterprise and Textron Financial Corp, citing his need for more time to examine the facts of Mays and Benzino’s multi-million lawsuit, which alleges that the board of directors colluded to steal the magazine and illegally ousted the two from their executive positions.

PAUL MCCARTNEY DOESNT CARE ABOUT CANUCKS

In General, Music, Politics on March 3, 2006 at 8:03 pm

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI- Paul and Heather McCartney posed with seal pups on ice floes in the Gulf of St. Lawrence Thursday and blasted Canada’s annual seal hunt.

“Canada is known as a great nation,” the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted McCartney as saying. “But this is something that leaves a stain on the character of the Canadian people and we don’t think that’s right. I don’t think the vast amount of Canadians think that’s right.”

The couple told a news conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, they have “complete faith that Prime Minister Harper will take swift and decisive action to end the slaughter of these defenseless seal pups for good.”

Seal products were banned from the United States in 1972 and the Humane Society of the United States sponsored the McCartneys’ Canadian trip to try to pressure Canadian authorities to end the annual hunt.

WHO KNEW THE DONALD WAS THIS NICE?

In General on March 2, 2006 at 11:40 pm

Who knew that Donald Trump was such a friend of the little guy? When the reality television star heard that a waiter and a security guard at his Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago, found and returned a diamond-and-platinum bracelet lost by a female member at a recent Jay Leno-headlined dinner-dance, Trump was shocked to learn that the lady hadn’t tipped the two honest employees. Especially since the bracelet was worth $2 million, as Trump told another Mar-a-Lago guest, Outlaw Biker mag founder Casey Exton, who repeated the claim at New York’s Zocalo restaurant. So what did The Donald do? He phoned the lucky lady — who tells me the bauble is worth “far less than $2 million” — and shamed her into visiting the club on Sunday and leaving two cash-laden envelopes for the good samaritans. How much cash? “I don’t think that’s anybody’s business —that’s ugly,” the lady, not Martha Stewart, told me yesterday.

“WE ARE FULLY PREPARED”- BUSH

In General, Politics on March 2, 2006 at 6:03 pm

WASHINGTON – In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans’ Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage. Bush didn’t ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: “We are fully prepared.”

The footage — along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press — show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.Linked by secure video, Bush expressed a confidence on Aug. 28 that starkly contrasted with the dire warnings his disaster chief and numerous federal, state and local officials provided during the four days before the storm.
